HSHP HOSA had a lot of fun at the area competition. The competition was at the McAllen Convention Center this year. After two long days of competing, HOSA did very well and emerged with a better understanding of competition.
HOSA's Creative Problem Solving team, where they find a solution to a medical problem, won 5th place at the tournament. It was composed of Alex Castillo, Marco Martinez, and Maleni Arredondo. Matthew Garcia won 3rd place in researched persuasive speaking, and he will be advancing to state with Daniella Ramos, who does Behavioral Health. On Tuesday, January 26, 2015, HOSA approved our spring fundraiser, and discussed the experience at the Area seven HOSA competition.
HOSA's spring fundraiser will be an event called "cow square bingo". Participants will buy a "square"- or area in the yard that the event will take place- and if the real life cow poops in that square, then the participant would win. With this event, that HOSA officialy approved, will be different activities to do along with it. HOSA talked about having different kinds of fair foods, like funnel cakes and pizza, and games like horseshoes and bean bag toss. HOSA also talked about the HOSA Area competition. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, HOSA discussed the rounds of testing taking place Wednesday and Thursday of that corresponding week. HOSA discussed rules and guidelines of how that would work.
Furthermore, HOSA discussed and concluded that Nicole Duran would be head of a committee concerning the Newsletter Social. Newsletter will be holding a social where guests will have fun playing games. HOSA's installment of these games will be a Kahoot quiz and a bingo game. Talk to Nicole to join that committee. HSHP HOSA announced the success of our ButterBraid fundraiser (HOSA made of total of $1362 profit), introduced its website and finalized a new initiative.
HOSA's new initiative is an ipod and headphone drive in benefit for Retama Manor Nursing Home. This drive will include donations of ipods, headphones and even itunes gift cards. After our drive, HOSA will have a volunteer event at Retama Manor where volunteers will help the residents with their devices. If you know how to work itunes library, apple devices, mp3 players, etc. then you would be helpful. Volunteering at the nursing home is also available. Most of the ButterBraids have been passed out. To everyone who sold, Thank You! We sold a total of 274 ButterBraids for a total of 3,562 dollars!
HSHP HOSA turned in fundraising money. ButterBraids will arrive on Friday, November 13, 2015 and will be picked up from 4-6. If money isn't turned in, then turn it in ASAP.
